Dear Winemakers,

I thought I would give you an update regarding grapes and Gordons! Fall Bright is a winemaker supply shop and a small vineyard, (Pa'tridge Run Farms) located in the cool-climate region of the Finger Lakes in central New York. My husband, Tom Mitchell, has two passions: one is wine-grapes and the other is Gordons....Gordon setters, that is. On May 7th his favorite Gordon, Queen, had a litter of pups. We have 5 males and 2 females.

The sire of this litter is DC/AFC (Dual Champion and Amateur Field Champion) Carolina’s All Hat, No Cattle “STETSON” OFA excellent.  Stetson was also NFC (National Field Champion) runner-up in 2005). He is owned by Jan and Bill Holloway (High Point Gordons) North Carolina. The Holloway's plan to add a MH (Master Hunter) title to Stetson's already impressive resume.

Queen is OFA good, PennHip 80th percentile, CERF. She is one of Tom's personal gundogs. She was sired by NFC / FC / AFC Gunsmoke Rising OFA good. Her maternal Grandsire was 4X NFC / NAFC / FC / AFC Pal Joey 4X NGSCA Gundog of the Year, OFA good. Queen is a medium sized Gordon (44 lb.) well built, extremely intelligent, very athletic, capable, intense and eager to please. Queen has a very strong people attachment and when she hits the field she becomes a bird finding dynamo. She has the potential to make the hair on the back of your neck standup when she points. She will lean into a point with tail at 12:00 and straight as a string. She is steady to point and a hunting fool. Tom wants these pups to go to people who hunt or aspire to field trial-ing.

We have 1 male pup available for sale.

In the vineyard, we are pretty in pink with leaves edged in pink and small grape clusters showing. Spring vineyard work is behind as usual . Spring work includes getting the trellis ready, replacing line and end post, tightening wires, the actual tying, "taking out", which is a hydraulic hoe that removes dirt from the base of grafted vines and spraying. There is a lot going on. After we catch up on that, there are 2400 replacement vines to get in the ground. Whew! As you have a sip of your wine, give a toast to us and all grape growers world around and enjoy.

When making wine at Fall Bright, YOU are the winemaker! We basically provide the amateur winemaker with the grapes or grape juices and winemaking supplies and the know-how to make his own wine. Check out our website, http://www.fallbright.com for information and online shopping. Call the shop at 607-292-3995. Our shop staff make wine and can answer your questions. Tom is our most advanced winemaker and we take your advance winemaking problems to him. If Tom nor I are available Luci, our shop manager, has taken several awards at the NY State Fair Home Winemaking Competition over the years and can answer your questions. We are open Saturday, 10-4 and Tuesday to Friday, 10-5 and  May Your Wines Fall Bright! Marcy Mitchell
