Save 10% on-line and in-store!
on the BETTER BOTTLES:  PLAIN (meaning no port or spigot hole) in 3,5 and 6 gallons sizes.
Offer Expires:  September 28, 2008
BetterBottle carboys are BETTER, SAFER, and EASIER than glass. They are not a cheap replacement for glass carboys; they replaced glass carboys!   The special scientifically tested type of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) used to make BetterBottle carboys and related components, have such non-porous, un-reactive, stain resistant, non-absorbing, hydrophobic surfaces, that they are as easy to clean and sanitize as glass and easier to clean than other types of plastic.  They meet FDA requirements with Kosher statement.

They are taste and odor free, clear and colorless and extremely stain resistant.  They do not leach flavors from or to the wine or beer.   They not do not carry over flavors from one batch of wine or beer to the next, (just like glass) and they are easy to clean.  Detergents recommended for winemaking and beer brewing do not damage BetterBottle carboys and related components, when used according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Re-using (beverage) containers made of PET does not pose a health risk - provided the containers are properly sanitized!  This includes individual size water containers.  They are safe to reuse if they are sanitized!!

Contaminants that stick to glass and penetrate other plastics soak away from your BetterBottle without brushing.   In fact, the carboy brush is NOT recommended with this lab plastic to avoid scratching the inner surface.  If you have a stubborn stain, fill the jug with cool water that has 2 tablespoons of chlorine bleach in it and leave 24 hours or use your favorite cleaning agent.  You could insert a wash cloth into the jug and shake around with your favorite cleaning solution.

All sizes seal with a #10 stopper.  This uniform and larger neck size is handy, in case you were wondering how to get a washcloth in and out!

As with glass carboys, the use of really hot water is not recommended.  The glass broke and temperatures above 140 degrees F will distort your BetterBottle .  There is no need to try to sanitize with hot water, risking burns.

Rinsing by flushing is also very effective: garden hose nozzle, Double Blast Bottle Rinser, etc.

The bottom of the better-bottle is punted, making racking more efficient.

They weigh 1-1/2 pounds and reduce the weight of a carboy full of juice by 11 pounds or so.  You can downsize due to weight restrictions by changing to the BetterBottle and still make a full 5 gallons of wine.

Your carboy carrying handles will fit these jugs, even though they manufacture their own handle.

For detailed information about these products, take a look at their website at

http://better-bottle.com/technical.html

Available with Racking Adapters, quick-disconnect High-Flow valves, there is no need for siphons and oxygen-free racking is possible.  Optional closures that use O-rings to make tighter seals are more easily cleaned and sanitized that conventional stoppers.   They have a dry tap (airlock) that eliminates the use of water or alcohol in your airlock.

We are starting out with a line of 3, 5 and 6 gallon Plain (un-ported, no spigot type) BetterBottles.  The latest increase in the cost of glass could have been the last straw.  But wait!  The Better Bottle is perfect for primary and secondary fermentation and the price can not be beat.

One of our winemakers rinses glass marbles with a meta solution and rolls them into his BetterBottle to displace his wine when he needs to top up!  That way he gets to drink his topping....

You also get the Better Bottle advantage over the heavier, breakable glass carboy.  It works exactly like the traditional glass carboy, is safe for bulk aging and the punted bottom makes sediment free racking a snap.  Best of all, it is light weight and unbreakable!  We can ship it- insured!  Don't think of Better-Bottle carboys as plastic, think of them as better than glass.

PS:  The blue plastic water bottles that so many of us use for transport and some for fermentation, do allow oxygen to permeate.  They may be fine for transporting but could reduce the quality of your wine if you use it for fermentation or aging.
