Shoppe
10110 Hyatt Hill, Dundee, NY 14837 607-292-3995 Open now Tuesday to Friday 10-5 and Saturday 10-4 Providing grapes and juices and supplies for the amateur winemaker since 1978. Harvest hours start Sept 9: Tuesday to Sunday: 10-5 EST
Welcome again to the Finger Lakes in Central NYS. Fall will display spectacular colors, so don’t forget your
camera.
The winter of 2005 to 2006 was very mild and easy on the grapevines. As spring sprung a very good bud break in most varieties was confirmed. Alternating cool, wet and warm to hot sticky weather resulted in variable fruit set, depending on the bloom sequence and the then current weather conditions. We have the POTENTIAL to see the best crop many of us have seen in 3-4 years (even a light crop on Gewürztraminer). A good vineyard disease control program this year has been necessary to keep the lid on fungal pressure. Fruit to foliage ratio appears quite good in most varieties and we have had more than adequate precipitation to keep the vines growing. A nice warm August with adequate but not excessive precipitation and no disasters would really bring the crop along. On the bad side fuel prices have driven up prices and cost of every aspect of doing business. We have had to adjust prices accordingly. We hope you understand. Please say a prayer or two for good weather and a quality harvest and moderating fuel prices. NY 73.0136.17 has been named Noiret. We have indicated a limit on order weight. PLEASE ASK IF THAT IS STILL IN EFFECT WHEN YOU PLACE YOUR ORDER. We have increased it and can consider your request. (We are unable to fill any commercial orders, though.) Also, please note that the ripening date for Chelois has been moved to a week later than Chancellor. It would benefit from a little more time on the vine. The decision to harvest a Late Harvest Vignoles (Ravat 51) is based on weather conditions and on orders. Please place your orders, or else Tom will think
there is no demand and will not leave any grapes to ripen for a late harvest even if weather is perfect! We will try to have a normal harvest schedule and will keep you informed by phone and online. During the harvest, remember that we are closed on Mondays. Luci is off and the men may be in the vineyard when you drop by. We are open Tuesday to Sunday, 10-5 EST starting September 9. We are open year round at the shop and have online shopping for supplies at www.fallbright.com. NOTE: In order to check your emails at the shop, please use winemaking@fallbright.com, so Luci can check the email through out the day. We can check online orders from the shop or order by phone 607-292-3995. If the line is busy, your call will be answered by voice mail; leave a message or call back. When placing orders, make sure we have your phone numbers, email, deposit on whole grape orders (25%), and your pick up dates. All grapes and juices must be picked up at Fall Bright. We do not ship produce. NO GRAPE PICKUPS ON WEEKDAYS, unless special arrangements have been made with TOM for large orders . For smaller orders, we can crush your order Sunday for a pickup during the week, but there is no crushing of small orders on week days. Please order grapes in 5 pound increments. There is no deposit on juice. Please note the last pick up dates on some juices. We will make every effort to contact you with a change of harvest dates and pick-up dates. Check your answering machine and know whose number you have given us for contact! If we have to hold your grape order, we usually recommend that you allow us to crush into a container to hold for your pickup. We need to crush small orders on the weekend, even if you have to pick up during the week. The decision to harvest a Late Harvest Vignoles (Ravat 51) is based on weather conditions and on orders. Please place your orders, or else Tom will think there is no demand and will not leave any grapes to ripen for a late harvest even if weather is perfect! We look forward to seeing you this fall. May your wines fall bright! Tom and Marcy Mitchell My wine has "fallen bright" and hasn't bubbled in a long time. It taste slightly sweet, can I bottle it now? I need to get my jugs empty and ready for
harvest that is coming up fast! |
