To simplify the list of stuff you need, pick up our basic winemaking
equipment kit.
These Basic Starter kits include a 7.8 gallon
fermenting bucket with a drilled lid with a grommet for an airlock, a 5 or
6 gallon PET carboy, one small Buon Vino drilled stopper (bung), a 3
piece airlock, a triple scale hydrometer and a jar, a self-adhesive fermentation
thermometer, a 21” rigid racking wand for 3/8 tubing, 5 feet of
3/8 tubing, a spring bottle filler 3/8" tubing, wine bottle brush,
B-Brite (8 ounces) cleaner and a beginner book "Enjoy Home
Winemaking".

Items
not in your equipment kit that will need to be purchased at the time of
winemaking:
- Concentrate kit: Wine
Concentrate Vintners Kit OR Spagnols
Kit. We drop ship these
kits. See our list or make a request.
- Juice: 1/2 gallon more juice than you need
for a finish volume of 5-7 gallons. OR
- Juice: The final volume needed and plan on
topping up with finished wine.
- Red Grapes at the rate of 12-13 pounds per
gallon if fermented on the skins OR
- White Grapes at the rate of 15 pounds per
gallon cold pressed. Do not ferment white grapes on the skins.
· Potassium Metabisulfite, an
anti-oxidant and anti bacterial additive used at a 40-80 ppm (parts per
million). This
is added at racking. It can also be used for cleaning and chasing chlorine
rinses.

Corn sugar to adjust the Brix of

If you use cane sugar, heat it in juice to convert to simple

recommendations, nitrogen sealed, vacuum packed for 5-6 gallons. If
you open a pack of yeast for just a 1 gallon batch, use the entire pack.

Wine bottles are not in your kit.
You will need 24-25 bottles for each 5 gallons to bottle.
Save them, ask friends to save, rinse and drain.
You do not want a bottle that was not rinsed. Check recycling centers, 3 liter to gallon jugs are great to
have, also. Ask us what we have for sale. Right
now we have green screw top port bottles, some misc used.

- Carboys are a clear glass or PET "jug" of different
sizes. We have 3,5, and 6 gallon jugs or carboys. You'll
always need an empty one or a bucket
for
racking, which is the process of transferring wine off the lees
(sediment) into a clean carboy or container.
- Bung to fit (#6-#7) and
an airlock, which are in the
equipment kit.
- Siphon hose and racking tube for racking, which are in the equipment kit.
- A bottle filler for the end process of filling bottles. It attaches to
end of siphon tubing and fills from the bottom up, displacing enough
wine for corking when removed. This is in the equipment kit.
- Hydrometer
link to how to read your hydrometer, (triple scale: potential alcohol,
Brix, specific gravity) to test the sugar level BEFORE
fermentation. This is in the equipment kit.

A negative 2 reading is dry, dry, dry. A positive 1degree or a 0
reading has some sugar left and is not safe to bottle unless Sorbate (in
combination with Potassium Metabisulfite) is going to be used. See
