The 2004 New York State Home Wine committee awarded medals to 130 wines in this year's event. The competition, now in its 23rd year, is an annual event here in New York State.
The competition is open only to amateurs who are residents of New York State. This year the competition awarded 28 Gold Medals, 48 Silver medals, and 56 Bronze medals.
The competition is organized and run by the New York State Home Wine Committee of the American Wine Society and is fully approved by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. It is a two-level competition with a preliminary judging held on one day, followed two weeks later by a final judging of the wines receiving the highest preliminary scores. The final judging was held at the New York State Fair in Syracuse. The final judges are all professionals from the New York Wine Industry.
